Valentine’s Day is Approaching ! :)

Our Valentine’s Day party is on Tuesday, February 14th at 2:30.  Please refer to the note I sent home with the attached class list.  Please have those sent in by Friday, February 10th.  :)

Remember to read at least 15 minutes every night with your child and ask them questions about what the book was about.

Please study spelling words with your child every night.  This week we have the -ight and -ite words.

Remember that your child has to be able to spell past spelling words in their writing.  Some tough words to practice are

  • want
  • what
  • when
  • why
  • where
  • have

Please initial and log the amount of minutes you read with your child every night.  Even if it is 0 please still initial so I know you have seen it.  Thank you for all that you do!  :)   Have a great week!

It’s a Four Day Week!

Please be sure to remind your child that every Tuesday they need to bring back their library book and wear their tiger t-shirt.  :)   Our special classes this week are

Tuesday-Music

Wednesday-P.E. Please wear tennis shoes.

Thursday-Art

Friday-Computers

A reminder:  Your child can login to www.Raz-Readers.com and go under WSDUNN, click on their name and start reading.  :) Reading 15 minutes every night will help your child improve.  (You can remind them that they earn a prize out of the prize box after each level is passed)

Things you can do with your child:

1.  Be on the lookout for their mini fast facts sheets that they do each day.  It’s a timed test to see if they are able to complete adding numbers.  Most have already completed adding 0, 1, 2 and 3.  For example, for adding three all the problems are 3+0, 3+1, 3+2, 3+3, 3+4, 3+5, 3+6, 3+7, 3+8 and 3+9,

2. Counting change up to $1.00.  This can be extremely difficult for most of the first graders so please practice with them at home.

3. Read, read and read :)

4. Spelling words.

Be on the lookout for January’s Scholastic Book Orders coming your way!  :)

Have a great week and thank you for all that you do!  :)

November’s Character Ed word is caring.  I will be on the lookout for November’s Most Valuable Tiger along with others who are caring.

I have sent home scripts to our Thanksgiving play with your child’s part highlighted.  Please practice with them daily.  We practice our play everyday and it helps us become more fluent readers.  You are invited to join us at 3:00 on November 22nd.  We hope to see you there!  Have a great weekend and enjoy the cool (ok cold) weather.  :)

Responsibility

Our character Ed word for the month is “responsibility”.  Taking responsibility for your own choices is important.  :)

This Friday is a half day for the students.  Please be sure to read with your child every night for at least 15 minutes.  When you finish a book, write the title down on your “Book It” sheet.  When your child reaches 10 books, send it in with your signature and I will send home a coupon for a free personal pizza.  Have a great weekend!  :)   Thank you for all that you do!

RESPECT

Our word this month was respect.  We talked about showing respect for not only teachers, but our fellow classmates as well.  We gained another friend in our classroom this week, which brings us back up to 20.  :)   Last week we learned about maps.  We learned things like the name of our city, state, country and continent.  We talked about the continents and the oceans.  We have an exciting and smart group of friends in our class!  I am proud of how well they all read.  Please keep reading with your child every night.  Even if it’s just 15 minutes, take turns reading.  When they get to a tricky word,  they know to get their mouth ready.  Reading with your child every night will help support what they are learning at school.  Thank you for all that you do.  Have a great week!  :)

Our First Week :)

We had a great first week of school.  We have 20 fantastic friends.  Please be sure to read our newsletter that is in your child’s orange communication folder.  It has important information on it including our spelling words for the week.  We have a spelling test every Friday so please be sure to study the words.  If you haven’t already, please complete any forms you still have for me and send them in with your child.  I sent home our first book order form.  Please check it out if you are interested.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  I hope everyone enjoys their weekend.  Please get plenty of rest, I know I will!  :)

Thank you for all that you do!
